Microsoft Defender Offline Scan log files are stored as a MPLog- YYYYMMDD - HHMMSS.log file located in the C:\Windows\Microsoft Antimalware\Support folder. You will notice D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Offline Scanner towards the top in the opened log file. Microsoft Defender Antivirus event logs are saved to the file below.
I can't get the Windows Defender Offline (Excuse me, it is now known as Microsoft Defender Offline) scan to start. I tried it from PowerShell, I've tried it from CMD Prompt both with administrative rights and I've even tried from the GUI of the program itself.
I went through the logs of Windows defender offline scans, found in C:\Windows\Microsoft Antimalware\Support\msssWrapper.log , which say " Scan completed successfully, attempting to clean any active malware.
Windows Defender Offline stops at 91%-Solved Ran Windows Defender offline this morning for no particular reason. I'm pretty sure machine is clean. Full system scan and Malwarebytes found no threats. It got to 91% then closed and restarted. Any idea why it stopped ? Last couple of lines in the log read:

The scan runs from outside the normal Windows kernel so it can target malware that attempts to bypass the Windows shell, such as viruses and rootkits that infect or overwrite the master boot record (MBR).
Sometimes it won't run unless you first select Full scan (or Custom scan) and then select Windows Defender Offline scan before clicking on Scan now. It's an old issue that Microsoft hasn't bothered to fix.
Have you by any chance deleted the recovery partitions ? If so, offline scan won't work. Thanks for that. Yes, I have deleted recovery partitions on all my Windows 10 PCs since I rely on frequent backups to protect my Windows installations.
Microsoft Defender Offline Scan doesn't actually seem to scan When I click 'Scan now' it restarts my computer and then instead of launching Win RE to perform scanning as it's said to be supposed to work, I'm back with my normal desktop and nothing more happens. Also, it doesn't register any scan result.
